Well-meaning family members like to tell you “it will just happen. You will get pregnant. I just know it.”

Finally, after years and years of trying, someone has the inside scoop! They “just know” that you’ll get pregnant. How did they find this out? Did the Fertility Gods tell them? Did your uterus drop by and share the exciting news? Did his semen analysis secretly confess the big announcement? Did the future swing by your parents house and only told your mother? Maybe Michael J. Fox went Back to the Future and only informed your Great Auntie Annie. It’s so great that they “just know” you will get pregnant. You and your partner don’t know, your fertility doctor is not so sure and even your fur child seems pretty skeptical. But it’s nice to know that someone else is certain you will conceive.

Maybe your uterus told their uterus and then this whole rumor started. Perhaps your biological clock came over and “tocked” about it. Maybe your embryos wrote a note on their bathroom door “Did you know so-and-so is going to get pregnant?”

It’s super fantastic they “know.” But how do they know and you don’t? And if they know, why can’t they tell you when?

It's so funny, because every once in a while a family member will ask me "is there something you want to tell me?" And my heart will race and I actually think for a minute…maybe I am pregnant and I didn't know it! Ridiculous, I know.

i also love it when they say it to you online- and you think for a minute they may be onto something, but then you see them make another post to another infertile minutes later saying the same thing. WHY ALL THE LIES??!! infertiles cant handle it!!

I can't tell you how many times my mom has said "I just have this strong feeling you'll get pregnant this month." And of course I'm NOT. Talk about getting my hopes up all irrationally (well, maybe mom has this weird second sense, right?)

And yeah, she also just *knows* it will happen. One day.

LOL, I hate it when people tell me that. Well meaning, maybe. Foot in mouth, definitely.

I had someone tell me she "told me it would happen" after I got pregnant, and then miscarried a week later. Hmm, she didn't see that one coming…

Ah! So true! I love when they add a "Don't worry" in front of "it will happen". Really?! So all this worrying for nothing?
We need a list of what to say in cases like this, besides rolling our eyes and slapping on a fake smile.

  10. rebecca says:

It's the knowing smiles that make me crazy!! As if they are belittling me for being so stressed about this because, obviously, it's going to happen eventually. Tut, tut, dear child. Yeah, if I KNEW what they KNOW, I'd be much less stressed about this all. But, somehow, I don't have as much insight as they do! Thanks for yet another great post!
