Your friend tells you that she got pregnant ‘by accident.’ You heard that another friend wasn’t even trying and she got pregnant. A co-worker forgot to take her birth control and she got pregnant. Another just coughed, and she got pregnant with twins. Well, congratulations! We are so happy for you.

What in the world is an ‘accidental pregnancy?’
How is that even possible we wonder.

We have all heard stories about someone getting ‘accidentally pregnant’ but everyone who is having trouble conceiving knows accidental pregnancies cannot exist. My co-worker claimed ’she wasn’t even trying’ when she drank too much one night and ended up pregnant on the first time. A few years ago, the condom broke for us and that did not result in an ‘accidental pregnancy.’ It resulted in us purchasing better quality condoms (although we all wish we threw out those condoms years ago).

For us infertiles, the correct definition of accidental pregnancy actually means:

trying to conceive naturally for a year without any luck, then going to a fertility doctor, then enjoying all those internal tests, forcing your husband to get an uncomfortable sperm test (no, it’s not like you see in the movies), then trying fertility drugs mixed with sticking needles in our butts, then paying $20,000 for fertility treatments and then FINALLY after 6 years, getting pregnant only to go onto have secondary infertility.

That, my friends, is the real definition for ‘accidental pregnancy.’

I wanted to tell you as an IF girl I love your site and I’m looking forward to all the reasons you write in here! :)I laugh and agree with almost all of them. So great.

Follow my blog “When the Rain Comes” it’s my IF blog. I rarely (never) update the other one.

Have a great Memorial Day! :)

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I’d like to know more about your story. Cute post, accidental my butt. We “fertility challenged” know that to be completely a huge myth. No such thing as an accidental pregnancy. I wish you all the best. I look forward to reading more.

Thanks Ladies! My story is that I’ve been married 4 years and trying to conceive now for 2. My husband was diagnosed with low sperm count and he recently had a varicose surgery to try to improve her count. We have been to fertility appointments but now we decided to (or attempt to) relax and wait to see if his count has improved. In the meantime, I am blogging and trying to find the humor in dealing with infertility. It seems us ladies are all alike.

Just stopping by from JMs and had to post a big fat AMEN to this one! Personally, the advice to “just relax and it’ll happen” was always my favorite. Because obviously, trying and trying and trying wasn’t going to get me anywhere. All of those “oops, I’m pregnant again” moms seemed to think that the only way to GET that way was for it to be quite accidental… Oh well. The trying and stressing and screaming and crying and praying finally paid off here, and I hope it does for you too – and SOON.

Said perfectly!, I can not get enough of your blog. Yesterday I laughed until I choked. It’s nice to see that I am not alone, nor crazy!!! Thank you!!!!

I didn’t understand accidental pregnancies even when I was a teenager. Seriously–I’ve been too responsible to have this kind of accident, although now I wish I would’ve back then.

  7. Lyndsay says:

Oh so true. My sister is one of those “oops, I’m pregnant” ladies, she supposedly missed one BCP and got pregnant.

    Yeah right…..

  8. Sinan Ozyol Poops Himself says:

It really means, “Irresponsible and not ready for a baby.” But “accidental pregnancy” accepted politically correct term.

  9. It’s hard to understand how so many teens end up pregnant when we’ve been charting ovulation and doing iui’s for over two years now. The “Oops” pregnancy just doesn’t make sense to me.

  10. Anony(mouse) says:

Had my ET today (2 embies – crossing my fingers for a BFP!)… So, anyway, while lying on the operating bed (or whatever its called), I suddenly thought about the ridiculous sight I must have made…

… There I was, bottom half butt nekkid, legs up in the air, with 4 men (Dr, embryologist, anethesiologist, nurse) sitting/ standing around & having various discussions about my inside lady parts as they manipulate speculums, catheters, the ultra-sound, and other unrecognisable instruments…. and making comments like “This will hurt just a little”, and “You will feel some pressure now”… Seriously? It’ll “hurt just a little”?? Ill feel “pressure”??? lol… So as I lay there feeling “pressure”, I thought about how Fertiles get preggers by doing an enjoyable (and not timed!) baby-dance, but it takes me 5 people, (none of whom is my DH!), lots of poking, several gadgets/ technology, and a little bit of “pressure” to MAYBE (PLEASE!!) get preggers… Sometimes, ladies, you just have to laugh :-D
